Before-and-after photos that actually convince

Before-and-after images are the strongest marketing in the industry – when done well. Bad images do more harm than good.

Same conditions, or it does not count:

The most common mistake: the before shot in neon light with unstyled hair, the after shot by the window post-blow-dry. That reads as dishonest, and is perceived that way. Same place, same light, same angle, same distance.

Light matters more than the camera:

Daylight from the side of the face is almost always the best choice. Direct ceiling spots create hard shadows and make skin look uneven. A simple spot by the window beats any expensive ring light.

Show the detail:

Not just the overall look – with colour, nails and brows especially, the close-up convinces. Two or three perspectives are enough: full, detail, movement.

Get consent in writing:

No client image may be published without explicit, documented consent – the treatment itself does not cover it. Ask specifically what for (Instagram, website, advertising) and record it in writing. A short form is enough.

Remember:

An honest, well-lit photo convinces more than an edited one. Heavy filtering creates expectations that cannot be met in the chair.
