Layered cut
A cut with layers of differing length – for movement and volume.
In a layered cut, hair is cut at several lengths on top of each other. That removes weight, brings movement into the hair and makes the style look fuller.
Which hair it suits:
Thick, dense hair becomes lighter and easier to style with layers. Fine hair benefits from a few softly placed layers – too many can make the ends look thin. On curls, layers stop the shape becoming triangular.
Related cuts:
The shag thrives on many visible layers; the butterfly cut combines short top layers with a long base length. Both are ultimately interpretations of the same principle.
