Split ends
Split hair ends – they can only be cut off, not repaired.
Split ends occur when the protective cuticle layer at the tip wears away and the fibre splits. Causes include heat, mechanical friction, chemical services and simply the age of the hair.
What actually helps:
A split end cannot be permanently rejoined – products can only smooth it visually until the next wash. The only real solution is trimming, typically every eight to twelve weeks.
Prevention:
Heat protection before blow-drying and straightening, no rough towel-drying, microfibre or cotton instead of terry, a silky pillowcase and regular moisture care noticeably slow it down.
