Retinol

A vitamin A derivative that stimulates skin renewal – effective but needs acclimatisation.

Retinol is one of the best-researched cosmetic ingredients. It stimulates cell renewal and is used both for blemish-prone skin and to refine skin texture.

Introduce it slowly:

One or two evening applications a week are enough at the start. Redness, flaking and tightness in the first weeks are well known; if it becomes severe or persists, the concentration is too high or the product unsuitable.

Essential to note:

Retinol makes skin more light-sensitive – consistent daytime sun protection is mandatory. Vitamin A acid products are not advised during pregnancy and breastfeeding; check medically when in doubt. Do not combine with strong acids on the same evening.
