Nail fungus (onychomycosis)

A fungal infection of the nail – not a cosmetic matter but a medical one.

Nail fungus shows as discolouration (yellowish, whitish, brownish), thickening, crumbling and separation of the nail plate. Toenails are affected particularly often.

Why this is not a studio matter:

Nail fungus is an infection and contagious. It must not be painted over or covered with an enhancement – under an airtight layer it worsens, and instruments can transfer it to other clients. Treatment belongs in medical hands.

The right approach in a studio:

If suspected, the treatment is declined or limited to the healthy nails, the reason explained kindly, and a referral made to a medical or podiatry practice. Instruments used are then properly disinfected. That protects everyone involved and is a mark of quality.
