Manual lymphatic drainage (cosmetic)
A very gentle technique supporting the drainage of tissue fluid.
Cosmetic lymphatic drainage works with very light, rhythmic pressure along the lymph pathways. The aim is to get accumulated tissue fluid moving – on the face this often shows as a less puffy eye area and clearer contours.
Typical use:
As part of a facial, in the morning before an occasion, or alongside treatments that can cause swelling. The effect is pleasant but temporary – regular sessions make it last longer.
Where the line is:
Medical lymphatic drainage after lymphoedema, surgery or with venous disease is a therapeutic treatment and belongs in physiotherapeutic hands with the relevant training. With acute inflammation, thrombosis or unexplained swelling, no treatment is given.
