Sun protection factor (SPF)

A measure of protection against UVB radiation – the single most effective anti-ageing step.

The sun protection factor indicates by what factor the skin's own protection time against UVB is extended. UVA protection is labelled separately, in Europe by the circled UVA symbol.

Why it belongs in every routine:

UV radiation is the biggest external factor in premature skin ageing. No serum can compensate for what daily unprotected sun exposure does. UVA is present on cloudy days and in winter too.

Especially important after treatments:

After peels, microneedling, laser or IPL, skin is considerably more light-sensitive. Consistent protection then prevents pigmentation spots – a point reputable studios raise in every aftercare talk.
