Double cleansing

Two-step cleansing: oil-based first, then water-based.

In double cleansing the skin is cleansed twice. The first step with an oil or balm dissolves make-up, sunscreen and sebum. The second with a water-based cleanser removes residue and sweat.

Why two steps:

Oil-soluble things dissolve best in oil. Water-resistant sunscreen and long-wear make-up often cannot be fully removed with a foaming cleanser alone – residue can burden the pores.

Not necessary for every skin:

Anyone not wearing make-up and needing little sun protection during the day usually manages with one cleanse. In the morning, one step is generally enough. Over-cleansing can disturb the skin barrier.
